This document provides details about
the Data Center we are in and its capabilities.
SPACE
-
Data center is approx. 52,000 square feet, with approx. 47,000 square feet of raised floor
space
- Slab-on-grade (concrete) floor with remote water detection monitoring; no water running
above the data center
- SAS 70 Type II certified area is physically segregated from rest of data center
- 19" cabinets -24"W x 37"D x 84"H; lockable; 19" mounting rails
- 23" cabinets -30"W x 37"D x 84"H; lockable; 23" mounting rails
- Cages -locking chain-link cage space in 87, 100, 120 and 150 sq ft increments; custom
space available for larger applications
- Roof rights -ability to place point-to-point microwave link systems and other antennae
systems on roof of the facility
POWER
- AC power installed to order
- N+1 redundancy in power systems
- AC Power plant with battery and generator backup
- Two 2,500 kva redundant power feeds from grid with redundant transformers
- Five parallel redundant Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) systems
- Four 2megaWatt diesel generators, UL listed, double walled for extra
security, with a skid mounted, above-ground tank of 3,500 gallon capacity. 14,000 gallons
of diesel fuel onsite. Generators can be refueled while running. Even at full capacity, we
only require three generators to run, while the remaining generator is in stand-by mode
- Diesel generators enable “wrap-around” capabilities. Running on generators, the date center
can shut down UPSs to perform maintenance, upgrades, etc. without affecting or
interrupting data center operations
- Output to raised floor has redundant feeds to A and B side Power Distribution Unit (PDU)s, two power circuits for each rack, two power strips within the rack, and dual power supplies
within the servers
- Generators are run under load every week (we have an on-site ‘load bank’)
- Generators are serviced quarterly
- UPSs are serviced semi-annually
- Batteries tested semi-annually
ENVIRONMENT
- Full data-grade HVAC system, including N+1 redundancy in three 370-ton chiller plants
(only need 2 to run), glycol/chilled water pumps, forty-two 30-ton Liebert air conditioning
units, and cooling loops
- 72 degree ambient air temperature (+/-2 degrees)
- 45% humidity (+/-5%)
TELCO
- Three OC-48 Sonet rings (packet over Sonet) that run down separate sides of the street and
enter the facility from diverse locations, plus gigE point to point. All encased in a concrete-
covered conduit. Utilizing Cisco Hot Standby Router Protocol, failover is automated and
optimized between two Maintenance Equipment Rooms
- Fed by multiple internet service providers, including AT&T, Global Crossing, Level 3, MCI Worldcom, and Verizon Communications
- The data center has its own IP address space and autonomous system number, and is running
Border Gateway Protocol with full Internet table routes to ensure dynamic re-routing of data
if any links are interrupted
- Private line and frame relay services also available
- Redundant Cisco GSR 12000 core routers
- Multiple pairs of Cisco 6509s for distribution routers
PREVENTION/RECOVERY
- Generator sized to run entire site at full load for 24 hours minimum
- Early-warning AnaLASER fire detection system, as well as smoke and high temperature
detectors
- Dry-pipe, pre-action, double interlock fire suppression system
- Fire Supression System (FM-200 System) is a full flood system, in ceiling and floor; Pre-Action Sprinkler System is a backup system
- Johnson Controls Metasys Building Management Systems for monitoring of power and HVAC
- Systems monitored on-site and by data center’s Network Operations Center (NOC)
- Northern Pro-Watch for monitoring security
- Edwards Systems Technology for monitoring fire
MONITORING
- Customer IT infrastructure monitored by two redundant NOCs, staffed
7x24x365
- NOC and facilities personnel on site 7x24x365
- Extensive array of monitoring tools, including leading commercially-available tools
- Technology agnostic (can receive events from a variety of sources, including agent-based
and agent-less, SNMP, MIB, MIB2, OpenView, etc.)
- Facilities monitoring on all critical electrical components and HVAC
- Monitoring and logging on card access system, logs reviewed monthly (per audit)
SECURITY
- Building is locked down 7x24x365
- Offices/common areas isolated from the data center
- Mandatory visitor registration and visitor escorts; Mandatory employee badge access
- Single authentication – card reader for building access at all interior and exterior doors
- Dual authentication – card reader and biometric palm scanner for data center access
- 7x24x365 on-site, in-house security staff
- 7x24x365 video surveillance/recording for inside and outside the building
